Happy Thirsty Thursday! It may be a little cloudy today, but both our taprooms are cozy and bright. Our Brewery Taproom opens at noon and our Downtown Taproom opens at 4:00 PM.

AND, it’s Thirsty Thursday! Like every Thursday, we offer a new beer and this Thursday is no exception. Today we’re serving Sandbagger Red – an American Red Ale.

American Red or Amber ales belong to the Pale Ale family but are named more for their color than any narrowly defined flavor profiles. Ranging in color from light amber to dark amber or red and even copper to light brown, many have malt-forward aromas and flavors, while others reflect more balance between malt and hops. Some others are on the hoppy side. Sandbagger Red is malty, copper red and a little on the hoppy side with a smooth finish. Initially this style gained popularity in the Pacific Northwest and Northern California, where this style is known more as a “red ale.” As the style spread across the nation, brewers began making their own interpretations, with some calling it “amber.” We chose to call ours a red ale because it reflects the upper West Coast with its higher hop profile and use of Amarillo and Centennial hops.
Sandbagger Red is 4.85% ABV and 55 IBUs. It is very drinkable and will pair nicely with grilled meats and rich sauces (burgers, BBQ, game, seafood, chicken, spicy entrees, pastas) – a wonderful balance between refreshment and substance. You will find it on tap at Coal Creek Bowling Center in Lafayette and, if you come in today you’ll get a card for a free game of bowling at Coal Creek when you order a Sandbagger Red!
